Everything you need from day one — cooking gear and utensils, bedding and linen, camp chairs and table, a cleaning kit, airport transfer (we pick you up), and luggage storage during your trip so you're not cramming extra bags into the van. There's nothing extra to buy or hire separately.
No. Both our campers are under 6,000kg gross vehicle mass, which means you drive them on a standard New Zealand or international driver's licence. No special endorsements needed. Our vehicles are automatics, so even if you're used to driving on the right, you'll adapt quickly.
Yes. Both campers hold a current NZ Motorhome/Campervan Certificate of Self-Containment. This means you're legally permitted to freedom camp in designated areas under the Freedom Camping Act — your camper has onboard water, waste storage, and toilet facilities to go 72 hours without connecting to external services.
Freedom camping is allowed at hundreds of spots across the country — beachfronts, lakesides, forests, mountain valleys. The Campermate app (free on iOS and Android) is the best tool for finding them. Always check site-specific rules before you stop, as some areas have restrictions even for certified self-contained vehicles.
Every rental includes comprehensive vehicle insurance and 24/7 roadside assistance — you're covered from the moment you drive off. With standard (Basic) cover, we hold a $3,000 bond on your credit card at pickup. That's the most you'd ever pay if something happens, and you get it back when the camper returns in good shape. Upgrade to our Peace of Mind plan ($29/day) to drop your bond to zero and get full coverage — including windscreen damage, tyre repair, panel damage, and gravel road coverage. You choose your plan during the booking process.
A 20% deposit secures your booking — pay with any Visa or Mastercard. The remaining balance is due 30 days before pickup, and can also be paid by bank transfer. If you book less than 30 days out, the full amount is due at booking. No credit card surcharges — ever.
If you're on standard insurance, yes — we hold a $3,000 bond on your credit card as security (a pre-authorisation, not a charge). It's released within 7 business days after return. With Peace of Mind insurance, no bond needed at all.
Your full driver's licence (plus IDP or certified English translation if not in English), credit card for the bond if applicable, and your booking confirmation. Pickup is from Auckland, 9AM–4PM daily, and takes about 30–45 minutes including a walkthrough of your camper.
Minimum 21 years old, full licence held for at least 12 months. No learner, restricted, or provisional licences. Non-English licences need an IDP or certified English translation — we recommend RVA Translations (rvatranslations.co.nz). Extra drivers are free — they just need to meet the same requirements and be listed on your agreement before driving.
Yes — a few specific roads void your insurance and you must avoid them: Ninety Mile Beach (Northland), north of Colville (Coromandel), Skippers Road (Queenstown), Ball Hutt Road (Mt Cook), ski field access roads June–October, and any beach driving. Everything else — including most gravel roads — is fine.
Absolutely. Interislander and Bluebridge both run between Wellington and Picton. Select 'campervan' when booking and enter your camper's dimensions (listed on the camper detail page). Book your ferry tickets early in summer — it sells out fast. The 3.5-hour crossing is spectacular.
Both our campers are certified self-contained, so you can use designated freedom camping spots across New Zealand. Download CamperMate or Rankers Camping NZ to find spots. Tips: check local rules before you stop, arrive early at popular spots, leave no trace, and aim for a holiday park every few days to top up water and charge devices.
Yes — New Zealand in winter is stunning. Be prepared for snow, frost, and black ice on South Island mountain roads. Check road conditions on the NZTA website (nzta.govt.nz) before heading into remote areas. Snow chains are available as an add-on.
We include airport transfer — we pick you up when you land and bring the camper to you. Drop-off works the same way in reverse. Get in touch when you book and we'll sort the logistics around your flight times.
Yes — and this is one of our most popular features. Leave any bags you don't need on the road with us and pick them up when you return the camper. You keep only what fits comfortably in the van, which makes a real difference to the experience.
Call us first. We're contactable 24/7 and we'll work out the fastest solution — whether that's talking you through a fix, arranging a mechanic, or getting to you ourselves. We cover roadside assistance for mechanical breakdowns.
Tell us your flight details when you book. We'll arrange to meet you at the airport when you land and drive you (and the camper) to wherever you're starting from. Same in reverse when your trip ends — we'll pick up the van and get you to your departure airport.
Free cancellation up to 14 days before pickup (21 days for high season: December–February). Cancel 7–13 days before pickup and you'll receive a 50% refund. Cancellations less than 7 days before pickup, or no-shows, are non-refundable. If something unexpected comes up, get in touch — we'll always try to work with you.
Yes. The inter-island ferry (Interislander or Bluebridge) connects Wellington and Picton and takes around 3 hours. Both our campers fit on the ferry. Book ferry tickets separately — we recommend doing this well in advance during peak season as it sells out. The crossing is an experience in itself.
For peak season (December–February) and school holidays, 3–6 months ahead is sensible. In shoulder seasons, 4–6 weeks is usually enough. We only have two campers, so availability goes quickly. If you're set on specific dates, don't wait.
